Japanese Auction Detail Sheets
This article describes how to read auction detail sheets. For details that are in Japanese, contact us and we can have them translated.
Every auction house has their own auction sheet template, so they vary, but most have the same details and basic layout. This article will use the following detail sheet for example:
The first detail sheet is the original detail sheet for the Toyota Soarer we imported. The second is the same detail sheet, but with some translation. Below are descriptions for each area of the detail sheet.
- Auction # - The auction number designated by the auction house for each vehicle.
- Year/Month - The year and month of production. Years can range from 1 to 63, see the following:
-
- S62 = 1987
- S63 = 1988
- H1 = 1989
- H2 = 1990
- Model - The model name (ie: Soarer), sometimes in english.
- Doors - The number of doors on the vehicle.
- Trim Level - The vehicle's trim level, on this auction sheet it is GT Twin Turbo L.
- Vehicle Grade - This is a general grade determined by the auction inspection, see below:

- 0.0, R, A, B - Repaired auction vehicle, vehicle was previously in a moderate to major accident.
- X - Ungraded, probably due to age of vehicle.
- Interior Grade - Ranges from A to C, A being the best.

- Fuel Type - G for gasoline, D for diesel.
- Features - Features such as aftermarket parts are listed here.
- Vehicle Problems - This is where mechanical problems are listed, such as if the engine is seized.
- Inspection Comments - Smaller problems and comments are listed here.
Vehicle Chart
On the vehicle chart you can find details on what body damage the vehicle has. Designations for types of damage may be different from auction house to auction house. See the following designations:
- A - Scratch
- U, B - Dent
- W - Wave-type dent
- P - Paint fade
- S - Rust
- C - Major Rust
- X - Damaged part
- XX - Replaced part
Numbers listed after a designation are a grade of how serious the problem is, the larger the number the greater the problem.
For example, A1 is a small scratch, B3 is a moderate dent.
