Importing your Japanese Vehicle

Legalities

Importing to Canada

To import a vehicle, legally, to Canada from a country other than the United States, the vehicle must be 15 years old to the month of manufacture. The vehicle may leave the country of origin prior to it's 15th anniversary, however it must be 15 years old the day it arrives on Canadian soil.

Right Hand Drive

Right hand drive vehicles are legal in all provinces and territories of Canada.

Purchasing

Purchasing a Vehicle from Japan

If the vehicle you wish to purchase is still located in Japan, whether it's from our Japan Stock or from our Broker Stock listings, you must pay the minimum deposit amount listed on the vehicle's listing. The remainder of the purchase price must be paid upon arrival in Canada.

Payment Methods

Remote payment methods include mailing funds, payment by Certapay email money transfers or by bank transfers. You may also meet us in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta.

Service Fees for Ordered Vehicles

When ordering a vehicle from auction, we charge a fixed service fee. So your vehicle purchase price will be our cost plus the service fee. The service fee varies depending on the cost of the vehicle, it ranges between $800-1200.

Vehicle Importation Cost Import Concern Service Fee
Less than $5000 $800 + GST
$5000 - $9999 $1000 + GST
$10000 or more $1200 + GST

Shipping to Canada

Container Shipping Direct to Calgary

Our container shipments are now all destined for Calgary, however we have always been equipped to send our customer's vehicles anywhere in Canada. After purchase it typically takes 6-10 weeks for your vehicle to arrive in Calgary. Vehicles are Customs released and removed from the container typically within a week after arrival.

Roll On Roll Off (RORO)

The RORO method of shipping involves car carrier vessels. When oversized vehicles, typically only SUV's or large trucks cannot fit in a container shipment with 3 other vehicles, instead taking up 2 normal vehicle spaces, we can arrange to have the vehicle exported by RORO shipment. It is however unpredictable when a shipment via RORO can be arranged due to shipping line policies, therefore there can be wait times lasting several months.

Freight Insurance

Import Concern purchases two ocean freight insurance policies for each imported vehicle, the cost is built into our pricing already. The first policy is full loss coverage (ie. the shipping vessel sinks, the container is lost at sea). The second policy has theft and damage coverage (ie. someone steals your stereo, someone damages your vehicle but does not report it).
